The Lesson I Learned From a Bloody Mary Mix

I'm not sure where I was, probably some football related party, but I was offered a Bloody Mary made using Zing Zang mix. Usually, I'm not too particular in my cocktail mixology, however, I remember the mix being very spicy, having a weird flavor and overall something I didn't want to drink again.

Well, fast forward to a few months ago and I found myself in a precarious position at the liquor store. I'm in a mental showdown with two options, one being my usual mix which happened to be sold only in a larger-than-needed and more expensive 64oz size. Or I could choose a cheaper, more manageable 24oz size of the dreaded ZING ZANG.

If you know me, you're probably laughing at this point and trying to guess what kind of decision Craig makes in this situation...

Answer: cheaper

Zing Zang it was, back to the crap, so I could save $2 and not feel guilty about wasting the unused portion.

To my surprise though, I've actually enjoyed the couple, two, three Bloody Mary’s I made using Zing Zang. It actually has a really balanced flavor of spice, smoke, and pepper. It is far more enjoyable and drinkable than I remember, which got me thinking about change and decision making.

Lesson learned:

It's wise to give something from our past a second chance.

We don't have to go back and reevaluate everything again, like all our relationships, choices, likes, dislikes and Bloody Mary mixes. But it might be beneficial for us to hold on a little less tight to things from our past we thought we disliked and give it another chance. We are different people as we age, we change, we evolve, and some things we once disliked strongly may be enjoyable now.

Is there something you tried 5, 10, 15 years ago that might be willing to give a second chance?
